SEPTEMBER 2008     This Halloween season provides an opportunity to take a break from the onslaught of political snarkiness and the depressing economy to hearken back to simpler times when the perfect costume, a sack of candy, and a good scare were all we needed to see us through to Christmas.

So, rummage through your closet and under your bed for the makings of your own best alter ego, or see what whimsy resides in the odds and ends in your garage. It doesn’t take much to conjure up good, old-fashioned Halloween fun.

You’ll also find it well worth it to cast off your troubles for a spell and find your long lost childhood spirit at one of the area’s outstanding pumpkin patches, mazes, or haunted houses.

So, get out and find just the right specimen for that jack-o-lantern you have in mind; lose your worries for a while in a beautiful, Oregon cornfield; or let out that primal scream you’ve buried deep in you gut at any of several world-class haunted houses—it’ll do you good!

2008 NEWS     Doors creak open to at least three completely new productions this year: the haunted halls of the 120-year-old Butteville Manor’s “Dead and Breakfast” and Darkest Dreams Entertainment’s “Viral Damnation” & 3-D blacklight “Phobias” haunted houses. Please visit our Attractions page for more information and links to these and other seasonal offerings, including perennial favorites the 13th Door, Fright Town, House of Midnight, Milburn’s Haunted Manor, Nightmare Factory, and Scream at the Beach.

Site Update: This year, users will find that clicking on an individual listing will immediately direct them to that attraction’s website, rather than first going to a Roots of All Evil entry for that offering. For those listings that do not have their own websites, users will still be directed to a Roots of All Evil description for those events. User Ratings and Roots of All Evil reviews will still be accessed from the Attractions page by clicking on the pumpkins and skulls respectively, as they become available.

Warning: While Roots of All Evil is a family friendly site, links to some attractions (and, of course, links within those websites) may contain subject matter that is offensive and/or inappropriate for children.
