The
origin of our website name RootsofAllEvil is a family friendly
website. We simply decided to twist a well-known phrase to suit our purposes.
After all, with a name like Root, you've got to make the most of
it!
The
origin of our website Something inspired us (a desire to
experience the Halloweens of our youths?, midlife crises?) to venture out
to several haunted houses in 2003. We'd check the local newspaper and any
attraction websites we knew of to get a sense of what was in store. After
experiencing these attractions for ourselves, we were dismayed to discover that
those given top billing by some reviewers paled in comparison to some truly
stellar haunts that rated a small mention, if any. Ranting and raving
amongst ourselves as we often do when passionate about a topic, we decided it
was our duty to create our own website guide to Halloween attractions in
the Portland area. We hope you find our comments helpful in planning
where to spend your time and dollars this Halloween
season.
The origin of
ourselves (well, sort of) We are the Root family, and we love
Halloween. In our youth, the weeks, even months, leading up to this
magical night were spent envisioning, devising, and provisioning our chosen
costume. Whether dressed as superheroes, angels, or ghouls, we always had that
most important of costume accessories-the pillowcase. Yes, with that immense
sack in tow, we canvassed neighborhoods near and far, filling those cases until
they outweighed us by at least ten pounds. Stopping to gorge ourselves on
chocolates and candy corn every few blocks, the sugar rush gave us the
superhuman strength needed to continue on our quest well beyond bedtime and to
carry the load home. Today, our family has grown to include spouses and
children. With our varying ages and occupations, we bring a broad spectrum of
sensibilities to our Halloween reviews, including the perspectives of our
children, when appropriate. We wish to acknowledge here that we are a fairly
fearless bunch, in the sense that we are game for anything in the name of
Halloween thrills. We also wish to acknowledge here that, while
courageous in the face of faux phantoms, we thoroughly give ourselves over to
the experience, screaming, giggling, and hyperventilating all the way…as should
you if your aim is to have a good time. Caveat When considering the opinions
of any reviewer, it's important to keep in mind that experiences are as varied
as people, and certain factors may converge at any given time to result in
anyone having a better or worse experience than that described by a
reviewer.
