With the economy still screaming for mercy and recovery still on the ropes, we all could use a big dose of Halloween mischief to bolster our spirits. Never fear, October’s chill is surely on its way—and that should put us in a nostalgic state of mind, thinking back to the days of jumping in leaf piles, bobbing for apples, and pillowcases swollen with candy. If you’re in the mood to scream—and, really, who isn’t these days?—then visit our Attractions pages for links to some of the best seasonal offerings in the area, as well as Roots’ Reviews* and user ratings, all provided in the spirit of making your Halloween dollars count. We’ll also keep a bloody eye trained on any cost-saving deals to pass along, but keep in mind that many great deals on local attractions can be found via concerns such as Portland Perks and Groupon, as well as by checking the links on our Attractions page for coupons from the purveyors themselves.
New for 2011! At least two new attractions enter the local fray of fright this season. Fear Asylum and Forest of the Living Dead should both put a little zip in your steps, and the folks at ScreamEntertainment (formerly Scream at the Beach) add locations at Vancouver Plaza and Mall 205 to their Janzten Beach haunting headquarters. We welcome them all with a big Boo-yah!
Roots' News*Roots of All Evil returns to providing our own reviews this season…to a point. We plan to appraise only new haunted houses this year while providing past reviews of the perennial horror players for your perusing pleasure (the usual suspects are generally consistent with their annual offerings). Both new reviews and re-caps (including noteworthy changes/additions) are available by clicking in the Roots Review column on our Attractions page. And, of course, you, the website users, still have a forum here for providing your own ratings of attractions (movies, too!). So, get out there and get your Halloween groove on, then come back and tell us what you think.
